Your questions answered....
Can anyone get married in Church?

However, we can offer a Service of Dedication for those who have been married in a registry office, in which case the above mentioned restrictions no longer apply. If you are not sure, please speak to one of the priests.
What happens at a Church wedding?
The Church Wedding Service includes the signing of the civil register like any other but also includes the swearing of Solemn Vows before God and the giving of rings. There is also a special (Nuptial) blessing and you may also include Mass when the couple and their family can make their communion.
Am I expected to attend Church?
YES! ~ we ask couples to attend Church as part of their preparation for their wedding and particularly on the Sundays that the Banns are called.
The Banns of Marriage are the public announcement of your intention to get married. They are called on three consecutive Sundays at some point within three months of the day. They give people the opportunity to object to your wedding if, for some reason, they believe there is a legal reason why you cannot get married. They are called in this Church as well as the Church local to where your partner lives.
When can I get married?
Although most people get married on a Saturday it is possible to get married on any day of the week. However, there are certain days of the year when the Church does not perform weddings. You should always check with the priests before making any other arrangements to make sure the day is available.
How much does it cost?
Because of the legal requirements of a wedding service there is a fee that is charged to the couple. The price does increase each year but is normally around £250.
The cost for the dedication of a Civil marriage is not as much, please ask one of the priests for details.
What should I do next?
-
1. Speak to one of the priests and find out whether you are eligible
to get married at St. John’s Church.
-
2. If you are, you should collect an application form
and pencil in a date with the priest.
Remember to allow at least six weeks before the day if banns need to be called.
Then, we ask you to do the following:
-
Attend Church regularly on the Sundays leading up to the day. -
We also ask you to attend a preparation session with the priest
who will explain exactly what is involved in a Christian Marriage
and what you will be asked to do during the ceremony.
-
You will also be asked to come to a rehearsal together
with all those having a key role in the service.
This is normally a day or two before the wedding takes place
